History of Thai massage

The founder of Thai massage, Shivago Komarpaj, began practising massage some 2,500 years ago from his role as a Buddhist physician.

According to many records, such as the Pali Buddhist scriptures, Shivago Komarpaj was an extraordinary man. He knew a great deal about herbal medicine and many other medical techniques.

Throughout the centuries, this form of massage has been further developed and complimented with new insights. We see influences from Southeast Asian, Indian and Chinese medicine. This has resulted in a rich and extremely effective way of massaging. Because of these rich influences, you also notice different techniques and emphases within Thai massage.

SEN Lines

We base our healing massages on the principle of Sen Lines. According to this health theory, human anatomy is formed by as many as 72,000 Sen Lines. The principle which Chinese acupuncture also relies upon. In China, these Sen Lines are called ‘Chi’. In Japan, they are called ‘Ki’ and in India they are known as ‘Prana’.

The Sen Lines run through our entire body. We have six important lines in our arms, four lines running across our backs, six lines running across our legs, and there are a number of important lines running through our feet and hands.

The energy flows through these energetic lines to ensure that we are healthy and vital. Stress, illness, boredom and lethargy can affect the natural flow of our life energy and blocking disruption. During a massage, blockages are dissolved, and the energy begins to flow harmoniously through the body again.
